Wow! What a great response we received to the Premier of Cuttlebug Challenge University last week! We are thrilled that you are as excited as we are about this new Cuttlebug Challenge Blogspot feature! Thank you all so much for all your kind words, encouragement and gratitude! We really appreciate it! It tells us we are inspiring you in your creative world and that is why we are here.
Before I get to Part 3, which will post at noon today, I wanted to address just a few of the many, many wonderful comments left on the Basics Part 1 and Part 2.
Marge said... Fairly new to Copics and always anxious to learn more! A favorite way of mine to use them is to color clear gems and pearls to coordinate with my color scheme. Thanks for a chance to win your awesome prize!
Me, too, Marge! I have started buying my embellishments in whites, off-whites and clear, so I can Copic color them whatever color I need.

Teri said... Thanks for the easy tips. I have two copics and no idea how to use them to make the image look good. You got any tips on how to blend the colors and shades so there are no lines?
Hopefully, Part 2 helped answer this question, Teri. Coloring in tiny circles, overlapping the edges of the colors and working quickly, in small areas allows you to blend and color while the inks are still wet, which is crucial to smooth blending.

Juliet A said... You should add that instead of buying a new printer, they can take their printout to a copy shop and have it photocopied onto the paper that they bring for pennies per sheet. For a lot of people, this is the smartest way to go, especially if they are saving up for expensive copics.
Thanks so much for this tip, Juliet! Yes, this would be helpful for those that are having issues with their current printer and other methods aren't working to avoid the smearing of their images.

Ms. Cheryl said... I have saved this in my computer for future reference. I have not been able to find the Neenah paper. Where do you get yours? Thanks so much, ms.cheryl
Ms. Cheryl, I’ve never tried the Neenah paper, but I hear it is one of the favorites. There are a few online stores that sell Neenah paper, Amazon.com for one. I use Beckett because I had some on hand for other coloring media and found it to work great with Copics, too.

marla said... What a fun thing to learn about. I really like the brush tip markers the best. I find them easiest to work with!!
Though the best tip to use is certainly a personal preference, I love the brush tip, too, and just the feel of it on the paper was the reason I decided I had to learn to use them. They really are fun to use.

Tammy said... A class on Copics is such a great idea. For some reason we make things harder than they are and you are helping to take the intimidation factor away. I look forward to your information and practicing, practicing and practicing some more. Thanks!
You are so right, Tammy! Getting past the intimidation is the biggest hurdle! After that, it’s all fun ..... learning and improving as we go.

scubasubie said... Great job on this entry! Very helpful. Just an FYI - Sketch markers are refillable - Ciao's are not. Also, some laser printers will still have an image smear.
Actually, all of the Copic markers are refillable, including Ciao’s. One of the biggest differences between Ciao’s and Sketch is the size. Ciaos hold less ink than Sketches and therefore are less expensive . I love the larger ink capacity of Sketches though and I love having Sketch’s Color number on the end of the caps for easy visibility. And, yes, I think no matter what, someone somewhere will have issues with one method or another as far as smearing. For some, it will take a bit of experimenting with various methods in combination with various papers.

Thanks for the great followup Q&A!
Marianne Walker, Copic Goddess and author of the I Like Markers blog, has an AWESOME post comparing all different kinds of paper and cardstock and stamping inks. This post is a must read for all beginners - it certainly helped me a lot.
